Naturopathy:  practice of natural medicine and dietary advice

Naturopathy

Naturopathy is the practice of using natural therapies to allow the body to heal itself. A Naturopath seeks to find the cause of the complaint, rather than just treating the symptoms associated with the complaint.

Naturopathy encompasses the concept of holism: meaning that there is a multifaceted approach when treating an individual. The person's emotional state, physical state and environment are all considered and worked into the treatment plan: as Naturopathy recognises the influence that all of these factors play on a person's state of health.

A naturopathic consultaion consists of your practitioner taking a comprehensive case history and putting together a personalised treatment plan. No two treatment plans are the same because everyone is different.

You can see an Naturopath for many conditions that you would consult a General Practitioner (GP) for. Many chronic conditions respond well to Naturopathy treatment; however, there are varying levels of evidence for effectiveness of treatments and response for different conditions and symptoms. Therefore, if you would like to know more about how Naturopathy may assist you with any of the following conditions, please discuss with your Naturopath:

  • Digestive complaints,

  • Dermatological complaints, including eczema (atopic dermatitis) and psoriasis,

  • Weight-loss,

  • Weak Immune system.

Herbal and Natural Medicine

Herbal medicine, nutritional medicine and energetic therapies (such as homeopathy and flower essences) are combined with diet and lifestyle analysis to support the body in healing itself.

All prescribed herbs are on an approved list in accordance with TGA regulations.  Please ensure that your practitioner is advised of any medication or supplements that you may already be taking to avoid potential drug-herb interactions to ensure your health and safety is paramount.

Practitioner only professional supplements can be prescribed to address essential mineral imbalances (when dietary intake is insufficient) and are complementary to most modalities. They may assist in managing the cause of a condition, not just the symptoms.

Our natural practitioner only supplement range includes:

  • Blackmores Professional range of colloidal minerals

  • Nature’s Sunshine herbal supplements

  • Eagles herbal Supplements

  • Metagenics natural professional
    suppliments & products

With current debate (and ongoing review) about what is acceptable as the level of 'evidence' for herbal medicine and other 'natural' therapies, it is our responsibility at AMBB to remind the public that traditional practice (e.g the argument for 1000s of years of observation based accumulated knowledge) is not considered suitable modern and current scientific evidence.. therefore, if you wish to try a traditional approach: it is at your discretion and we can not provide guarantees for effectiveness for treatment of any condition or symptoms based solely on traditional theory and practice.
